Résumé

The various crises are having a significant impact on the entire food sector and are changing the attitudes of Europeans as well as policies on the importance of food security and sustainably produced quality and safe food for consumer health. The paper focuses on the consumer's fear of food security for the time of the first wave of COVID-19 and the associated concern for food security in the future and the changes in consumer behaviour. The online survey in Slovenia was conducted in June 2020 using a "snowball" method. The sample included 490 individuals. The results showed that both measured forms of fear (i) fear over food security during the first wave of COVID-19 crisis, and (ii) fear over food security in the future were statistically significant, moderately strong and positively associated with almost all forms of self-perceived behaviour change caused by the COVID-19 crisis. The respondents focused more on buying locally produced and processed food, food stockpiling and decreasing food waste. Only minor changes were expressed with regards to their food purchasing channels, with the elderly, the highly educated and those who classified themselves in a higher social class buying more often directly from farmers. In the future, the results of this research should be compared with other countries and the impact of an individual's economic situation and the impact of promotional campaigns on agricultural products on changing consumer behaviour should also be analysed in more detail.

Résumé

Various Slovenian hospitals were recruited to treat COVID-19 patients in Slovenia during the COVID-19 epidemic. Centrally coordinated hospital utilisation - depending on the needs, available hospital bed capacity, and considering the professional orientation of individual hospitals - left these facilities with different experiences. We present our experience and COVID-19 treatment management during the fourth epidemic wave in our peripheral, pulmonary-oriented hospital, representing the first treatment quality analysis of these patients in Slovenia. The basic hospitalization characteristics were analysed using integrated Birpis information system solutions and the electronic temperature-therapeutic charts (eTTL) review. The quality of management was assessed through adherence to professional recommendations. The analysis was carried out with the in-built statistical functions of Microsoft Excel software. 99 patients (58 women, 41 men) aged 67.9 years were hospitalised for an average of 8.1 days. The majority were residents of our region (61%), unvaccinated (61.6%), and experienced a severe form of the disease with the need for oxygen supplementation (88.9%). The majority received steroids (73.7%), antibiotics (68.7%) and vitamin D (71.7%), to a lesser extent specific therapy (remdesivir 25.3%, combination casirivimab/imdevimab 2%, tocilizumab 1%). No adverse reactions were noted. 17 people died (total mortality rate 17.2%). There was no infection transmission among the COVID department staff. Results show successful treatment of patients with COVID-19 in Topolsica Hospital. They also suggest the possibility of further improvements, particularly in prescribing antibiotic therapy.

Résumé

The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly impacted the forest-products industry locally and globally, including the availability of raw materials, supply chain, production, and product sales. Therefore, it was essential to study the effect of COVID-19 in Central and Southeast European countries, including Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina, where the forest-products industry plays a vital global role. An international group of wood scientists developed and implemented the web-based questionnaire that consisted of four parts: demographic questions, production changes, COVID data gathering, governmental response to COVID-19, and lessons learned. Participants were mainly from furniture production, joinery, and wood processing. Results indicate that more than 80% of respondents reported negative changes. The COVID-19 pandemic has seriously affected the supply chain, and the most significant changes were in the availability of solid wood (23%) and engineered wood products (21%). Among the most critical issues were increased prices of all materials, increased transportation costs, extended delivery times, limited quantities for all materials, and total disruption of supply chains.

Résumé

Social and other administrative procedures are gaining importance because of the increasing complexity of administrative relationships brought about by the Covid‐19 pandemic, digitalisation, and other societal changes. When exercising social rights, procedural elements should be seen – both at the level of regulation and enforcement of the rules – as factors contributing to the welfare state, the rule of law, and good administration, and not as an excuse for a bureaucratic attitude. In view of the multifunctionality of social procedures, including their casual‐functional role in social relationships and their potential for a critical value‐based evaluation of the current regulation, the rationale for this study is to assess the impact of the Covid‐19 pandemic on special administrative procedures conducted by the 16 social work centres (SWCs) in Slovenia. A special emphasis is placed on the informational calculation of social assistance payments, such as child benefits, kindergarten subsidies or state scholarships ‐by far the most numerous procedures involving social rights in Slovenia, with over one million cases annually. Drawing upon a normative analysis, available statistics, semi‐structured interviews with SWCs managers and surveys among employees, the findings reveal that the response of SWCs to the crisis has improved. However, largely due to the lack of coordination on the part of the line ministry, the simplifications introduced mainly benefit the public administration rather than particularly vulnerable parties to the procedure. Consequently, there is a need to pay greater attention to providing the parties with adequate protection of their constitutional rights and other elements of good public governance. In addition to analysing the direct practical implications of the legislative, organisational, and IT adaptations to the Covid‐19 pandemic, the article provides a broader study of the multifunctionality of social procedures and their role in ensuring citizens' fundamental rights in times of socially unstable conditions. The findings are thus directly applicable for practitioners deciding on social procedures in the broader European setting, and for policymakers and legislators in the respective fields. As the conclusions are grounded on a strong methodological framework, this should contribute to advocating the much‐needed change in ensuring the protection of the basic constitutional rights in social procedures in times of crisis in Central Europe and beyond. Résumé

Ensuring corporate security is an essential and critical component of any healthcare facility to provide safe services to its patients and employees. Healthcare facilities must employ a variety of strategies to ensure corporate security. This includes developing a comprehensive communication plan that defines the roles and responsibilities of the various stakeholders. The objective of our study was to present the concept of corporate security in healthcare institutions and in the Slovenian healthcare system, to highlight current threats in healthcare institutions in Slovenia, to describe the importance of strategic communication of corporate security in healthcare, and finally to define the current state of corporate security in Slovenian healthcare institutions in Slovenia. A survey was conducted and distributed to healthcare institutions in Slovenia to obtain results. A total of 154 healthcare stakeholders participated in our study. The results showed that corporate security is present in Slovenian healthcare facilities, but additional efforts are needed to improve it, especially considering the current challenges related to the measures taken after the COVID-19 epidemic and the shortage of healthcare personnel. The legal processes of corporate security in healthcare facilities comply with applicable laws and regulations to protect the interests of their patients and employees. Operational security processes are currently provided primarily by internal providers. There is a need for improvement, particularly in the training and education of staff, who play the most important role in ensuring safety. To effectively establish comprehensive corporate security, strategic communication with all stakeholders is essential to ensure that their security policies and procedures are properly implemented.

Résumé

BACKGROUND: In the search for innovative methods to improve the quality and efficiency of health services, integrated clinical pathways (ICPs) have been introduced. AIM: As there is a gap in research on ICP efficiency, the aim of the study was to investigate the role and impact of collaboration and communication among three interprofessional ICP teams on the self-assessment of efficiency of ICPs. METHOD(S): A cross-sectional study was conducted using a descriptive quantitative with a survey (n = 152) and qualitative methods with a focus group (n = 27) and in-depth interviews (n = 22) in a typical general hospital in Slovenia. RESULT(S): The results showed that health-care professionals found patient health care and the work of healthcare professionals' better quality with ICP than without ICP. The ICPs team members assessed communication, cooperation, and effectiveness in the ICP team as relatively good but identified the lack of staff as the main reason for their limitations. The impact of ICP team collaboration and communication on ICP safety exists but it does not explain a sufficient proportion of the variance and the corelation is medium strong. The result also revealed that the COVID-19 pandemic did not primarily affect ICP team members' fear of possible infection, as studies have shown in the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, but rather staff shortages leading to increased fear of errors and possible complaints and lawsuits from patients and relatives. CONCLUSION(S): Measures are needed for the additional employment of team members and the retention of current staff through financial compensation and the promotion of supportive workplace characteristics.Copyright © 2023 Mateja Simec, Sabina Krsnik, Karmen Erjavec.

In this article we discuss the nature of service user in-volvement in Higher Education (HE) social work program-mes in both England and Slovenia. This discussion is based on our experiences of supporting such programmes alongsi-de evidence derived from the literature. Firstly, we present a discussion of the effective development of service user involvement in the respective HEIs in our two countries. Se-condly, we explore how the involvement of experts-by -expe-rience in HEIs benefits the learning of social work students. Thirdly, we investigate how the emergence of Covid-19 has influenced the delivery of social work education and the involvement of service users in our respective social work programmes. We conclude by noting that our social work programmes have been forced to adapt to the needs of stu-dents in an online community and have embraced inclusive education. As a result of this, we suggest that the needs of experts-by-experience should inform the development of so-cial work education and that they should be consulted on how they choose to be involved in educational practice.

Résumé

This study examines the response of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) in local currency to the COVID-19 pandemic using monthly data (March 2020–February 2022), comparatively for six European countries. We have introduced a model of multivariate adaptive regression that considers the quasi-periodic effects of pandemic waves in combination with the global effect of the economic shock to model the variation in the price of crude oil at international levels and to compare the induced effect of the pandemic restriction as well and the oil price variation on each country's CPI. The model was tested for the case of six emergent countries and developed European countries. The findings show that: (i) pandemic restrictions are driving a sharp rise in the CPI, and consequently inflation, in most European countries except Greece and Spain, and (ii) the emergent economies are more affected by the oil price and pandemic restriction than the developed ones.

Résumé

Spas were attracting visitors since ancient times. Study aims to monitor the changes in spa tourism statistics in the period of 2010-2020 for the selected countries of Central and Eastern Europe (Croatia, Hungary, Serbia and Slovenia), with particular attention given to the average development rate (ADR) and average growth rate (AGR), and overnight stays and an average length of stay. The reference to the consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic on overnight stays and an average length of stay was discussed as well. Moreover, upon analysis of the existing tourism data for the period of 2010-2020, prediction of the post-pandemic period (until 2023-2025) was also implemented with the use of a linear model. In addition, using the broad criteria of a four-night stay as a minimum stay for medical treatments, Serbia has shown the characteristics of a medical spa, while Slovenia and Croatia could be characterized as "wellness medical", and finally Hungary was considered as a wellness spa destination.

Résumé

In this paper, we have examined the impact of COVID-19 on labour force and recovery peculiarities in selected countries of Europe. Our goal has been to reach patients with post-COVID-19 or long-COVID-19 symptoms who were treated since 2020 and latest 2021 in different medical spas around Europe. Our research focused on whether work affects any aspect of life during illness and whether complaints experienced during post-COVID-19 treatments affect any aspect of life during illness. To achieve our results, we used quantitative research and tested two hypotheses. Our primary survey was conducted in May-June 2022. A total of 110 valid responses were received. The data collected through the questionnaire was examined using statistical analysis and calculations – descriptive statistics, one-way ANOVA, linear regression analysis. All the respondents had COVID-19 positive test results in their life and attended post-COVID treatments in different medical spas in Europe. The results showed that coronavirus symptoms (post- or long-COVID-19 syndrome) were most likely to interfere with social and leisure activities and work. Well-being and pain need improvement. Improvement is possible with spa rehabilitation packages offering complex interventions such as balneotherapy (which uses local natural resources such as natural healing water, peloids, mofette), climatotherapy, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and physiotherapy. Working during illness has a significant impact on quality of life. It also has an impact on daily activities, mobility, and pain. Working during illness (COVID-19 infection) affected all aspects of life, and patients perceived that illness-related disturbances mainly affected work performance.

Résumé

The book was written with the COVID-19 pandemic as a backdrop and discusses the ways in which virtual ministry has impacted how priests do their work, and the Catholic community as whole. The editor, Peter Lah an associate professor at the Faculty of Social Sciences, Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, devotes several pages to a historical overview of how new technologies have been used in the church over the decades, allowing for lasting change and globalization opportunities. Unlike other chapters in this book, here we see a deeper explanation of social media concepts and an explanation for this overarching study, before diving into the case study. In the final case study, Researcher Olivier Gangola focused on the Archdiocese of Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo, which is quite large.

Résumé

The ideology of healthism and low perceptions of the threat of vaccine-preventable diseases may explain the positive link between socioeconomic status (SES) and vaccine hesitancy in high-income countries. The present study aimed to examine the effect of three measures of SES (education, income and family economic status), the perceived threat of infectious diseases and two dimensions of healthism (personal responsibility for own health and distrust in healthcare institutions) on vaccine hesitancy, adjusting for sociodemographic variables. A cross-sectional quantitative study was performed in 2019. Non-probability sampling was employed by sending invitations to respondents over the age of 18 to participate in the study. The snowball technique was used, employing e-mails and digital social networks (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram). Data from 661 respondents were collected via 1 ka.si, an online survey tool. Multivariate regression analysis indicated that vaccine hesitancy was significantly more likely to be expressed by women (β = 0.09;p < 0.001), high-income respondents (β = 0.09;p < 0.01), those who have lower perceptions of the threat of vaccine-preventable diseases (β = 0.39;p < 0.001) and those scoring high on two healthism measures (expressing high perceived control of their own health (β = 0.18;p < 0.001) and high distrust in the Slovenian healthcare system and institutions (β = 0.37;p < 0.001)). The findings indicate that among the examined predictors, low perceived threat of vaccine-preventable diseases and low trust in the healthcare system are among the strongest predictors of vaccine hesitancy among the Slovenian public. Policymakers, physicians and other healthcare workers should be especially attentive to the public's and patients' perceptions of the risk of infectious diseases and distrust in medical institutions, including during doctor–patient communication and through public health campaigns and policies.

Résumé

The paper analyses the longitudinal pathways for the 5Cs of positive youth development outcomes (Competence, Confidence, Character, Caring, Connection) in a school context during the COVID-19 pandemic. The theoretical framework for the paper is provided by the Positive youth development (PYD) perspective, which focuses on the importance of the interplay between individual characteristics and contexts. In the period of adolescence, school and its characteristics are one of the most influential contexts for the promotion of positive youth development. Therefore, the paper focused on the changes in the 5Cs in one school year using the methodology of longitudinal research (latent growth modeling) with three measurement points (beginning of the school year, middle of the school year, and the end of the school year). We used a sample of Slovenian youth (N = 1241 participants; 59,5% female; M age = 15.35, SD = 1.21) who participated in the PYD-SI-MODEL study and responded to the PYD questionnaire during the current COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, we tested whether the development of the 5Cs in a school year differed by gender, age, and school level (lower-secondary, upper-secondary). The results indicated a significant decrease in Connection, Caring, and Character from the beginning to the end of the school year and an increase in Competence and Confidence in the same period. Significant intercept-slope interactions were detected in Confidence and Connection indicating that their higher initial level is associated with a more stable trajectory throughout the school year. In addition, we found that gender and school level play a significant role in several of the pathways while age was not a significant covariate with any of the Cs. The study is the first to test 5Cs pathways in one school year, using Slovenian data. In addition to the important role of contexts on positive developmental outcomes, the study highlights the significance of 5Cs promotion in pandemic times as much as in more stable times.

Résumé

The article discusses the results of a research study on social work during COVID-19 in Slovenia. Governmental measures to prevent the spread of the disease have increased the need for assistance to various groups of people but at the same time limited their access to social services. The main research question was to what extent social workers and social services were able to reorganise and adapt to crisis conditions and how this relates to the role of social work in society. Data were collected using mixed methods: online survey and interviews with social workers. Content analysis and selective coding, thematic analysis and univariate descriptive statistics were used for data analysis. The analysis shows that the ability of social workers to respond to the growing and changing needs of people during the pandemic depended on the context in which they worked. Social work was perceived as more effective and responsive in social services where professional autonomy was assured and valued and where horizontal relationships existed between staff and management. The study contributed to a better understanding of the context in which the pandemic occurred and identified some structural barriers to successful social work that are internationally comparable and relevant.

Raziskovalno vprašanje (RV): Ali so starši mladostnikov ustrezno poučeni glede izzivov spletnega nasilja? Alternate :Research question (RV): Are the parents of adolescents in Slovenia adequately educated regarding the challenges of cyberbullying? Purpose: The purpose of the article is to investigate the area of cyberbullying among Slovenian adolescents in the time of covid-19 through the perception of parents of adolescents in Slovenia. Method: In the article, we used a descriptive method, with the help of which we described the theoretical starting points. In the empirical part of the article, we used a quantitative method, where we used a survey questionnaire that examines the perception of parents of adolescents regarding the possible increase in cyberbullying among adolescents in the time of covid-19. Results: Parents of adolescents from all over Slovenia participated in the research of the article. The statement that, according to the parents of adolescents, the majority of adolescents noticed the occurrence of violence against someone else, but did not take any action, is worrying. Organization: With the help of research, we wanted to examine the frequency of cyberbullying in relation to the time before and during covid-19, which is especially important for organizations (in this case, schools), as they take care of creating a safe and stimulating learning environment, where it is necessary to sta t with by preventing this form of violence, insofar as we want to achieve the inclusion and physical and psychosocial safety of adolescents. Society: The article examines a socially relevant topic, and due to the fact that covid-19 is a relatively new challenge in the field of virology, the mentioned area is included under the researched area, therefore the present research represents only the beginning of the study of the selected area. The results of the present research can be used by many experts who want to study the topic further, or adolescents, parents and teachers who want to get to know the mentioned area better. Originality: The originality of the article can be seen in the study of a very current social issue, which affects the so far little-researched impact of the covid-19 era on peer violence and cyberbullying among adolescents from the perspective of their parents. Limitations/further research: The limitations of the research are reflected in the limitation of the studied sample, and in addition, incompletely completed questionnaires appeared during the implementation of the survey questionnaire. The research could be expanded to include in-depth interviews among participants, both adolescents and parents as well as education professionals, as school quality is strongly linked to a safe and stimulating learning environment. Further research could also allow us to understand open communication in school, which creates a stronger sense of belonging to the school, because a favourable climate can allow the school to transform into a learning community, which means building a stimulating learning environment characterized by mutual respect and trust both for students and teachers.

Résumé

COVID 19 became a global epidemic with new uncertainties and significant consequences. The highest number of cases was observed in the United States, followed by Europe and Southeast Asia. Many sectors downsized or were otherwise hit hard by the pandemic. Governments focused on fighting the disease and mitigating its effects on their economies and health systems. This study examined how countries in the European region and the U.S. were prepared to cope with COVID-19 and its effects on their economies and health systems. After comparing economic growth, the Global Health Security Index, Stringency Index, and health inputs of these countries, it was found that many European nations and the U.S. were not fully prepared for global epidemics. The study results also show that the sharpest contraction in the national economies occurred in the second quarter of 2020.

Résumé

The Covid-19 pandemic was a major shock to tourism around the world and in Slo-venia. The number of tourist trips and overnight stays dropped sharply, and tourist flows were diverted. The paper presents the results of a survey, the aim of which was to deepen the knowledge about the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the tourist behavior of the Slovenian population. The results show that the pandemic influenced less frequent and shorter tourist trips and the choice of different tourist destinations. Travel decisions were influenced by both the role of epidemiological restrictions and perceptions of the safety of various forms of tourist travel, as well as the usual factors of tourist decision making. © 2022, University of Ljubljana Press. Résumé

This study highlights the important role that tourism can play in valuing the natural and spiritual heritage of mountains, and the cultural diversity and traditional practices of mountain peoples. Particularly when linked to nature and rural tourism, mountain tourism can make a valuable contribution to promoting sustainable food systems and adding value to local products. Developing sustainable tourism in mountains requires reducing its negative environmental and social impacts and addressing the challenges posed by climate change. The COVID-19 pandemic has already brought about major changes in the mountain tourism sector and substantial losses for communities and businesses. However, consumer appetites for destinations that are outdoors and less crowded have increased in the wake of the pandemic, and these changes usher in new opportunities for mountain destinations to rebuild a greener and more sustainable form of tourism and rethink their products and services. For this to happen, the following measures will be critical: innovation and development of year-round tourism experiences;investments in infrastructure, particularly for the digitalization of mountain tourism services;strengthening multi-level-governance, partnerships and active community participation;and ensuring regular assessments of the impact of tourism on mountains, the effective management of waste and resources, and clearer practices for defining and managing the carrying capacity of highland destinations. Nineteen case studies are featured, which highlight solutions being implemented or tested in mountain regions around the world.
